The Tale of Custard the Dragon By Ogden Nash Paging through this latest edition of Nash’s classic nonsense poem for children is like meeting an old friend. Nash’s work still feels comfortable and right. It still gives pleasure. Custard will always be a coward, but this does not stop him from saving his friends with gustatory from a villainous pirate. Munsinger’s watercolors are appropriately humorous and de-scarifying. My children loved this book so much when they were little everyone in our family can recite it by heart!! |

Pigs Aplenty, Pigs Galore! By David McPhail David McPail writes a fun story about his house being invaded by pigs. The story reads smoothly with rhyming verses of pigs from England and France and some in “just their underpants.” The pigs wreak havoc on his house while playing their games, until he calls an end to their shenanigans. |

Owen & Mzee The Language of Friendship By Isabella Hatkoff, Craig Hatkoff, Paula Kahumbu, P. Kahumbu Owen and Mzee are perhaps nature’s most endearing odd couple. Owen is an orphaned baby hippo; his real-life best friend Mzee, is a 130-year-old giant turtle. Having made their debut in 2006’s hit photo-essay Owen & Mzee: The True Story of a Remarkable Friendship, the pair return in a cute follow-up that shows how their unlikely friendship flourished during the subsequent year. |

An Tango Makes Three By Justin Richardson & Peter Parnell In this true, straightforwardly delivered tale, two male chinstrap penguins at New York City’s Central Park Zoo bond, build a nest and—thanks to a helping hand from an observant zookeeper– hatch and raise a penguin chick. This was number one on the ALA’s Most Banned Book list from 2006, and it is a GREAT book!! The best part about this story is that you can visit Roy, Silo and Tango at the zoo as they are still living there today.
